Top 10 Travel Accessories For Your Child

Kids Health Secrets | Blue Emerald Wellness

I LOVE traveling with my 2-year-old!

Does that sentence sound crazy to you? If it does, you are in the right place! In this article, we are going to discuss the top 10 travel accessories that will help both your child and YOU to enjoy the experience of traveling together!

Top 10 Travel Accessories For You and your Child on vacation

Traveling with your kids should be relaxing and enjoyable. Though that may sound impossible now, it can be accomplished with proper preparation. Depending on your child’s age, having the best travel accessories can be the key to success.

My child and I are avid travelers who are well-versed in testing out travel accessories. From low budget to high budget, trendy and obscure… I have tried them all! In my eyes, the most important thing is that the accessory serves the purpose it was intended for. With my firsthand knowledge and experience, I have compiled a list of some options that are suitable for any parent, regardless of your budget!

Most of these items target children who range from newborn to toddler age, but I have been intentional about including multifunctional items that benefit me as well.

Let’s dive into the fun!

  1. Travel Pack and Play

I recommend that every parent have one of these- not just a regular pack and play, but a travel one. There is a significant difference between them! Consider the following factors:

  • Size and functionality. Using a bulky pack and play while traveling will leave you with no choice other than to compromise on space.
  • Is it suitable for the age of my child?
  • Is it within my budget?

If you are a parent of multiples who is wanting to maximize space, and in need of a budget-friendly, good quality product that will last, you will want to consider the basic travel pack and play set up x2.

If you have a newborn, don’t like reaching down into a pack and play, and have some budget flexibility, you might want to consider a bassinet/pack and play combo. My top 3 travel pack and play systems that satisfy different tastes are:

Dream On Me Travel Play Yard

Century Travel On 2-in-1 Compact Playard with Bassinet

Flisko 2-in-1 Travel Crib & Bassinet

2. Sound Machine

Sound machines are a lifesaver during traveling. Perfect for noise cancelation while doubling as something familiar that puts your baby at ease. I use them for my child and myself when I want some spa-like downtime.

Whenever I use a sound machine, it triggers my daughter’s Pavlov senses and relaxes her immediately. I don’t necessarily choose a machine designated for travel, but one that is compact and makes sense to travel with. These are my top 3 sound machines that I would travel with:

The Housebay sound machine

Raynic Electronics sound machine

Yogasleep Hushh sound machine

3. Folding potty seat

Training your toddler to use the potty and worried about how traveling will impact that? Introducing the solution… the folding potty seat! Here is my favorite:

4. Baby chest carrier

Travelling can be stressful, especially when you are trying to do everything with a baby in one hand. Keep yourself hands-free to pay the cashier, hand your passport to TSA, or simply carry bags by utilizing a baby carrier! This one is comfy, versatile, and fashionable for both parents:

5. Car Seat covers – Summer and Winter

In my online classes, I’ve mentioned the importance of dressing your baby properly: don’t underdress or overdress them. Using a car seat cover helps address both of these concerns.

During the summertime, I liked to keep my baby from rain, sun, and wind, so I used a stretchy cover. It also functions as a nursing cover, or a chest carrier cover when she was little, and I was concerned about her getting sick from public places. In the wintertime, I used a zip cover to protect her from the cold elements, without overheating her with too many layers. These covers are also great in general to protect your child while giving them a little privacy.

6. Travel breast pump: Manual hand pump or Suction pump

If you are nursing your baby, you may be using a pump in between feedings, or even pumping exclusively. I found that using a hand pump AND a suction pump simultaneously not only helped me while traveling, but anytime! No need to bring your electric pump and risk losing it, damaging it, or hunting for batteries or outlets.

7. Toy and cup straps

Kiddos are notorious for throwing their cups and toys on the ground… not something you want when traveling through a germy airport! Utilizing a strap will not only decrease your stress, but it will keep your little one satisfied and taken care of.

8. Travel Stroller/Car Seat Transport

These aren’t a must-have, but a must-love. I was using a small umbrella stroller for the longest time because it was cheap and I didn’t care if something happened to it while stowed away during a flight. That all changed when I saw another mom with a travel stroller that folded up nicely. I thought to myself, “I need an upgrade”! I found this travel system and fell in love. It has multiple functions and positions for your child to keep them comfortable and calm.

Dream On Me Coast Stroller Rider

If your little one still requires a car seat, be aware that they make multi-purpose travel systems. If you want to try something different, there are little hand carts for car seats. They look unusual, but are easy to use and compact for storage.

9. Car Seat And Stroller Bags

If you have plans to fly and will be bringing a car seat or a stroller (generally larger than an umbrella stroller), it is worth investing in travel bags for each. They protect against damage, dirt, and germs from the conveyor belts and all the airport associates that will be handling them. The car seat bags should come with straps that you can easily carry on your back.

10. Packing Cubes

Haven’t heard of packing cubes? Now you have. And you’ll be glad you did! These are one of my favorite travel items. If you don’t get anything else from this list, try these!

Packing cubes come in all shapes and sizes, but I love these in particular because they are deep and easy to wash. I made the mistake of buying a different set at one point and was disappointed to see that I didn’t pay attention to the depth of the cubes. In this bundle, you get a lot of cubes for the price AND they are perfect for suitcases. Plus, the colors are so fun!

I have so many items that I love to travel with that make life easier- these are definitely my faves, which is why they made it to my top 10 travel accessories list!
